The Painter’s Progress. Neil Cuthbert

MAIN AND GREEN GALLERIES

Neil Cuthbert’s artistic ouput represents a sustained, powerful and imaginative exploration of the human condition. This survey exhibition highlights the vast depth of experience informing his art, and the evolving technical and conceptual elements of his art practice. Cuthbert has gained a reputation as the leading exponent of figurative narrative painting in Australia.

Cuthbert lived in the Shoalhaven for some years when he was in the merchant navy and studying fine arts part-time at Wollongong University. The artist now lives and works near Orange NSW, and this exhibition is produced and toured by Orange Regional Gallery. Cuthbert: The Painter’s Progress is curated by Dr Andrew Flatau, who has written a 115
page full colour catalogue which will accompany the exhibition.

3 Birds and a Cockatoo. Sue Dale, Jo Southorn, Carla Jackett

ACCESS GALLERY

Sue Dale, Carla Jackett and Jo-anne Southorn spent two nights and two days drawing and painting on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour in October 2008 and this exhibition is the outcome. Cockatoo started its life as a prison for convicts but then became the Commonwealth Naval Dockyard building many ships including HMAS Voyager that sunk in tragic circumstances off Jervis Bay. Weathered old buildings of sandstone and corrugated iron along with the remnants of huge industrial machinery scattered throughout and cranes littering the slipways provided ample inspiration
