Creative Moments

ALL GALLERIES

Creative Moments is an annual exhibition in its 19th year and is a joint activity of the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society, the Shoalhaven Spinners and Weavers and the Nowra Potters. It is not a competitive enterprise but gives local craftspeople, who are also members of those groups, the opportunity to exhibit their work to the community at large.

Under the heading ‘Wood, Wool, Clay’, Creative Moments brings together three complementary media which enhance and enrich each other. Many of the exhibited items will be for sale.

Parallel Dreams
Anna Glynn & Wu GuoWei

MAIN GALLERY

She drew a sharp breath, held it and tears welled in her eyes ...familiar figures and colours, fleeting dreams and memories... How can these art works have so much in common with her own paintings which were hanging at the same time in a gallery elsewhere in Shanghai?

This was the immediate response of Chinese artist Wu GuoWei on seeing Anna Glynn’s ‘Strange Memories’ paintings on exhibition in Shanghai in 2006. Since then the two artists have spent time together as artists in residence in Australia and China to try and answer these questions.

‘Parallel Dreams’ is based on this unique cross-cultural international collaboration between Australia and China. This exhibition on the themes of nature, childhood and the dream world includes a rich tapestry of materials, juxtaposing the two cultures. It shows the work of the two artists: works from before they met, works created together and new works created as a response to this strange synchronicity. Glynn has also created an evocative digital video artwork ‘Seven Dreams’ which includes original paintings, drawings, photographs, sound and animation.

FOYER GALLERY

Textile artist Robyn Almond uses her handmade silk paper, hand-dyed and painted fabrics and commercial fabrics as her media and her sewing machine as a drawing instrument. She describes this exhibition as “conveying my love and awe of this beautiful and terrible land I call home and my place in it.”

ACCESS GALLERY

The spirit and tranquil beauty of Lake Wollumboola, in all its different phases, have brought about these works. Drawings and pastels capture the flight of birds, the passage of clouds and reflections on water and accentuate the grandeur and exquisiteness of small objects found around its shores. Drawings of ancient shell fragments from a midden echo the footsteps in the sand left by Aborigines long ago.
