Meroogal Women’s Arts Prize ‘09
Books and the World of Ideas

Each year Meroogal invites women artists to respond to a different aspect of the property’s history. The 2009 theme encourages entrants to explore the titles in the Meroogal library and contemplate the role of books and the world of ideas.

Books at Meroogal cover a diverse range of subjects including history, religion, feminism, science, astronomy, botany and gardening, travel guides, novels, short stories and children’s books.

The Meroogal Women’s Arts Prize is a regional non-acquisitive competition and exhibition across the fields of visual arts, crafts and design. It is open to a work using any media made by a woman 18 years or over whose principal residence is in the local government areas of Shoalhaven, Shellharbour, Kiama, Eurobodalla, Bega Valley, Wingecarribee, Wollondilly or Goulburn Mulwaree.

Meroogal is managed by the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales

Creative Moments is an annual exhibition in its 18th year and is a joint activity of the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society, the Shoalhaven Spinners and Weavers and the Nowra Potters. It is not a competitive enterprise, but gives local craftspeople, who are also members of those groups, the opportunity to exhibit their work to the community at large.
Under the heading ‘Wood, Wool, Clay’, Creative Moments brings together three complementary media which enhance and enrich each other. Many of the exhibited items will be for sale.
